CFB Depth Chart Report: Week 4

Here's the latest to know ahead of Saturday's jam-packed weekend of college football matchups.

Koby Howard → Zay Robinson (Penn State, WR vs Wisconsin, 5pm ET)

The Penn State Nittany Lions are losing their star wideout in Koby Howard for an extended period of time, potentially for the rest of the season.
In just three games, Howard had already generated 12 catches for 344 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt freshman Zay Robinson will try to step up and play a key role in the slot for Matt Campbell's offense.

Trey'Dez Green → Malachi Thomas (LSU, TE vs Texas A&M, 7:30 pm ET)

LSU Tigers tight end Trey'Dez Green is hoping to be a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, but a lower body injury he suffered against Ole Miss could cause him to miss some time, and is confirmed out for Saturday's top-25 showdown against the Aggies.

That's a big blow to LSU's passing game, as Green has been an outlet for Sam Leavitt. Junior transfer Malachi Thomas, who joined LSU from Pitt, will look to take on a bigger role in Lane Kiffin's passing game in Green's absence, but Tigers fans will anxiously be keeping an eye on a potential return date for their star tight end.

Hollywood Smothers → Raleek Brown (Texas, RB at Tennessee, 12pm ET)

It's unclear if starting Longhorns running back Hollywood Smothers will play on Saturday in a tough SEC matchup in Knoxville after landing awkwardly while being tackled last week against UTSA.

Smothers is currently the team's leading rusher with 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but the good news is that the Longhorns have some solid backups in the backfield, headlined by Raleek Brown.

While Brown may have fumbled the opening play against Ohio State, the former USC and Arizona State running back has still rushed for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns of his own this season, and Saturday could be a chance to showcase his talents in a more featured role.
