Zay Robinson is a kick returner from Des Moines, Iowa, who played at West Des Moines Valley High School under head coach Gary Swenson. During his high school career, Robinson recorded 84 receptions for 1,070 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a senior, he led the team with 48 catches for 661 yards and three touchdowns, while adding three more touchdowns on kick returns at an average of 33.1 yards per return. Robinson transferred to Penn State from Iowa State, where he appeared in three games during the 2025 season, including a kickoff return against BYU on October 25 and one reception at Oklahoma State on November 29.
