First-Time Green Dot Players

Anthony Hill Jr, LB, Tennessee Titans

The battle looked to be a veteran affair between Cody Barton and Cedric Gray, but the emergence of rookie Anthony Hill has caused both to play fewer than 21% of the snaps through Week 2.

The Texas Longhorns product has team-leading 26 total tackles (8 solo) and two passes defended through 0-2 start for the league's 17th-ranked scoring defense.

Jacob Rodriguez, LB, Miami Dolphins

The other rookie earning the emerald honor has seem similar team results (the Miami Dolphins are also 0-2), as well as similar individual contributions, with his own 22 total tackles also leading his club.

The Dolphins, however, haven't quite been as stingy, currently ranking next-to-last in scoring defense giving up an average of 31 points per game, though early evaluations have Rodriguez as a bright spot on an otherwise struggling unit.

Divine Deablo, LB, Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons, handed the reigns to LB Divine Deablo, after last year's bearer, Kaden Elliss, departed for division rival New Orleans in the offseason.

As with most of the teams on this list, the 0-2 start and soft early results (27ppg allowed) aren't exactly inspiring, but Deablo has one TFL and one Fumble Recovery through two games, loggin 91% of the team's defensive snaps.

Cam Bynum, S, Indianapolis Colts

Traditionally the Green Dot goes to a linebacker, even if that LB is a rookie like the two players mentioned about.

The Indianapolis Colts, however, went a different direction when they named Safety Cam Bynum their Green Dot after LB Zaire Franklin was traded to Green Bay in the offseason.

The experiment didn't last long. After allowing 41 points to the Baltimore Ravens in a lopsided Week 1 loss, coach Shane Steichen announced that the dot would be transferred to LB Akeem Davis-Gaither for Week 2's tilt againt the Kansas City Chiefs.

Of course, a 33-30 loss there means there's a chance a third player gets a shot at calling the defensive plays when division play starts against the Houston Texans this weekend.

DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Dallas Cowboys

While certainly not a rookie, injuries have caused Overshown to play in only 20 games through his first three seasons, so the green extends beyond just the dot.

A rough start against the New York Giants put the Dallas Cowboys in an 0-1 hole, giving up 28 points in the road loss, and then Overshown missed Week 2 with a hamstring injury while rookie heralded rookie Jaishawn Barham received the role.

A home date against the Washington Commanders certainly provided an easier test, but Barham and the Cowboys looked much improved on defense, and with Overshown potentially returning in Week 3, it'll be interesting to see who DC Christian Parker designates as the defensive communicator if both options are available.
