James Laubstein is a redshirt senior quarterback at New Mexico who transferred in after two seasons at Sussex County CC. At 6'3" and 209 pounds, Laubstein was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA for 2026. In 2025, he appeared in nine games, including the final two regular-season contests while playing with a leg fracture, plus the Rate Bowl. He completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, rushed 59 times for 363 yards and 1 touchdown, and caught 1 reception for 13 yards. His standout performance came against Boise State, where he led a 75-yard touchdown drive on the final possession, going 8-for-11 for 67 yards and a score with two fourth-down conversions.
