Background & career
Tyler Brown is a free safety from Annapolis, Maryland, who attended Archbishop Spalding High School before playing at James Madison University. At Archbishop Spalding, he recorded 125 career tackles with 10 interceptions and 17 pass break-ups across four seasons, helping the school win MIAA Class A championships in 2022 and 2023. In 2024 at JMU, Brown appeared in all 13 games and accumulated 13 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. During his 2025 season, he started all 14 games at free safety, posting 80 tackles with five for loss, one sack, one interception and six pass break-ups. Brown earned Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt honors and a Sun Belt Elite Award for the 2025 campaign. Now a junior transfer, he joins Iowa as a defender who started all contests in his final season at JMU.
