Nate Sheppard, a 5'10", 205-pound running back from Mandeville, Louisiana, joined Duke as a four-star recruit in the 2025 class. In his freshman season, he appeared in all 14 games and started the final 10, rushing 200 times for 1,132 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 37 receptions for 286 yards and one touchdown. He amassed 1,440 all-purpose yards and earned Freshman All-America honors from The Athletic, along with Second Team All-ACC recognition from both the league and Associated Press. Sheppard set Duke freshman records for rushing yards, attempts, and rushing touchdowns while becoming the program's first 1,000-yard rookie rusher. The returning sophomore currently holds a 5.7 yards-per-carry average and has not fumbled in 239 career touches.
