Ely Hamrick is a true freshman quarterback for Virginia. A three-star recruit from the 2026 class, Hamrick began his prep career at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he spent two years with the Varsity White team. During his sophomore season there, he completed 59% of his passes for 1,244 yards with 18 touchdowns and no interceptions. He later transferred to A.C. Reynolds in Asheville, North Carolina, then to Crest High School midway through his junior year. As a senior at Crest, Hamrick threw for 2,457 yards and 30 touchdowns against five interceptions while rushing for 651 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. He was named the 2025 Mr. 5A Football for North Carolina by NCPreps.com and helped Crest win the NCHSAA 5A Football Championship. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he is the son of Ryan Hamrick, who played wide receiver at NC State.
