Jacob Newell is a tight end from Springfield, Oregon, who played his high school football at Thurston. A consensus three-star prospect, he recorded 87 receptions and 20 touchdowns during his prep career. Newell began his college tenure at Arizona State in 2022, redshirting while retaining freshman eligibility. He transferred to Akron, where he appeared in 29 games over three seasons and compiled 52 receptions for 392 yards and three touchdowns. His best year came in 2024, when he caught 35 passes for 254 yards and two scores, including eight receptions and 44 yards against Ohio on 9/28/24. Newell earned Academic All-MAC recognition in 2023 and now returns to Toledo as a senior.
