John Curry, a 6'2" 235-pound linebacker from Lubbock's Coronado High School, joined Texas Tech as a three-star recruit in 2023 and redshirted his freshman year. After appearing in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2024, Curry recorded 35 tackles and an interception while becoming the team's leading special teams contributor. In 2025, he switched from inside linebacker to the star position due to injuries and started all 14 games, finishing fourth on the team with 72 tackles including 3.5 for a loss. Curry added four pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries during Big 12 play, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors. He appeared in the Orange Bowl and helped lead Texas Tech to its first College Football Playoff appearance.
