Jamond Mathis is a 6'1", 250-pound defensive end from Saint Charles, Missouri, who attended Duchesne High School where he set a school record with 23.0 career sacks. He committed to Southern Illinois, appearing in four games as a true freshman in 2023 before redshirting. As a redshirt freshman in 2024, Mathis recorded 30 tackles, 8.5 for loss, and 3.0 sacks across 12 games with seven starts. He transferred to Kent State for 2025, earning All-MAC second team honors while collecting 28 tackles, 8.0 for loss, and 6.0 sacks in 12 games with two starts. Pro Football Focus graded him 84.5 overall that season. Mathis joined Texas Tech as a transfer with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
