Champ Kapanui is a 6'1", 205-pound linebacker for San José State. The Henderson, Nevada native played his freshman year at Liberty High School before transferring to Bishop Gorman HS, where he appeared in 32 tackles with three sacks and five quarterback hurries during his junior season. A three-time state champion, Kapanui earned All-State honors at linebacker and fullback in 2024, along with second-team All-State recognition at running back. He was named Polynesian Bowl MVP and NXTGEN All-American in 2024 and played on Bishop Gorman's national championship team that year. In his first season at SJSU in 2025, Kapanui made his collegiate debut against Hawai'i on November 1 and appeared in four games primarily on special teams.
