Max Whisner is a tight end standing 6'5" and weighing 255 pounds who transferred to Sam Houston from Akron. A native of Kansas City, Missouri, and product of Lee's Summit High School, Whisner was a three-star recruit ranked No. 11 in Missouri by recruiting services. At the high school level, he recorded 25 catches for 407 yards and seven touchdowns while also playing defensive end with 99 tackles and seven sacks. After redshirting in 2022 and appearing in one game for Missouri in 2023, Whisner joined Akron, where he appeared in seven games in 2024 and earned All-MAC Academic Team honors. During the 2025 season, he played in 10 games for the Zips, accumulating 4 catches for 36 yards and one touchdown, including a 1-yard scoring grab versus Central Michigan on October 4.
