Matt Smith is a tight end for Sam Houston State. The 6'4", 245-pound senior from Needham, Massachusetts, previously played at multiple universities. At Duke, he appeared in 11 games during the 2022 season and was on the field for 74 snaps. Smith then transferred to UMass, where he appeared in six games in 2024 and recorded three receptions for 38 yards, including a career-long 17-yard reception against Toledo on September 7. He also spent time at Rhode Island, appearing in 14 games and catching three passes for 13 yards and one touchdown.
