Mason Heintschel, a 6'2" quarterback from Oregon, Ohio, enrolled at Pittsburgh in January 2025 after early graduation from Clay High School. As a true freshman, he started nine games and compiled a 6–3 record while completing 201 of 316 passes for 2,357 yards with 16 passing touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He threw for 400 yards against NC State and recorded an 84-yard touchdown pass to Hicks. Heintschel earned ACC Quarterback of the Week honors and was a Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Semifinalist. In high school, he passed for 7,322 yards and 79 touchdowns over three seasons while leading Clay to the 2024 NLL Cardinal Division championship.
