Jacob Simpson is a redshirt sophomore tight end for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, standing 6'4" and weighing 240 pounds. The Johnston, Iowa native attended Johnston High School, where he caught 42 passes for 680 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior, earning Des Moines Register Elite Team and All-Iowa Football First Team honors. A consensus three-star prospect rated the No. 5 recruit in Iowa and No. 30 tight end nationally by recruiting services, Simpson redshirted in 2024 before making his Minnesota debut against Virginia Tech. He appeared in all 13 games during his 2025 freshman season, primarily contributing on special teams across competitions including Buffalo, Northwestern State, Cal, and multiple Big Ten matchups. Simpson earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in 2025.
