Maddux Borcherding-Johnson is a 6'3", 299-pound defensive lineman from Norwalk, Iowa, where he was a three-year letterman and team captain. In high school, he earned Des Moines Register Elite first-team all-state honors as a senior and compiled 62.5 tackles with seven tackles for loss that season. He also won a state heavyweight wrestling title as a senior. Borcherding-Johnson redshirted in 2023 and saw no action in 2024, earning Academic All-Big Ten recognition. In 2025, he made his collegiate debut against UMass with two solo tackles, one for a loss, and added an assisted tackle in the Minnesota game.
