Carson Cooney is a linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 6'3", 222-pound true freshman from Oswego, Illinois was a four-star recruit with a ranking of 293 overall in the 2025 class. At Oswego High School, Cooney lettered three years in football at linebacker and tight end, earning two all-conference honors and News-Gazette Class 8A All-State selection as a senior. His senior campaign included 57 tackles with seven for loss, three sacks, one interception returned for a touchdown, and three rushing touchdowns. As a junior, he recorded 81 tackles with eight for loss. Cooney redshirted during the 2025 season.
