Born in Miami, Florida, Bethune attended Miami Central High School before playing college football at the University of Central Florida and Florida State. He appeared in 61 games across five seasons, recording 339 tackles, 28.0 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 10 pass deflections, 4 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. In 2023, his final college season, he earned Third-Team All-ACC honors after registering 70 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss in 13 games. Selected 251st overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by San Francisco, Bethune registered 1.0 sack and 4 pass deflections in 2025.
