Jyron Hughley is a true freshman quarterback for West Virginia, standing 6'2" and weighing 195 pounds. The Belle Glade, Florida native played at Cardinal Newman High School, where he was a two-year starter under coach Jack Daniels. In his senior season, Hughley completed 115 of 171 passes for 2,018 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 1,528 yards on 131 carries with 19 additional touchdowns, totaling 2,771 all-purpose yards. He led Cardinal Newman to a 10-3 record and scored both touchdowns in the school's Florida 1A state championship victory over Chaminade-Madonna. As a junior, he passed for 1,353 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 835 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
