Gio Lopez is a 6'0", 203-pound quarterback from Madison, Alabama, who transferred to Wake Forest for the 2025 season after two years at North Carolina and South Alabama. As a redshirt sophomore at North Carolina in 2024, Lopez appeared in 11 games and completed 170 of 261 passes (65.1%) for 1,747 yards with 10 passing touchdowns, adding 133 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He previously spent two seasons at South Alabama, where as a redshirt freshman he started 11 of 13 games and accumulated 2,557 passing yards with 18 touchdowns against five interceptions while rushing for 465 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2023, Lopez earned 68 Ventures Bowl MVP honors after completing 14 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns in South Alabama's 59-10 bowl victory.
