Malik Esquerra is a safety from Killeen, Texas, who attended Shoemaker High School. The three-star recruit committed to Texas Tech on July 15, 2023. After redshirting in 2024, Esquerra appeared in all 14 games during the 2025 season as a redshirt sophomore, primarily on special teams and as a reserve. He played defensive snaps in 12 games and logged 139 defensive snaps according to Pro Football Focus. Esquerra recorded eight total tackles across four games, including a career-high three stops against UCF and two tackles versus Oklahoma State. He also contributed 160 special teams snaps, tied for second on the team with 41 kickoff return snaps.
