A five-star recruit from Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, Matthews signed with Tennessee in 2024 as a top-25 national prospect. In 2025, he started all 13 games and caught 53 passes for 813 yards and four touchdowns, including a career-long 62-yard reception.
