Mathis Haygood is a 6'4", 230-pound weakside linebacker from Fayetteville, GA, who attended Sandy Creek HS before playing at Marshall from 2023–2024. In his 2025 redshirt sophomore season at Southern Miss, Haygood appeared in all 13 games with one start against South Alabama on November 22. He recorded 44 total tackles including 17 solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. Haygood intercepted a pass against App State on September 13, returning it 18 yards, and added a pass breakup and quarterback hurry. His season-high output came in his start at USA with 11 tackles.
