Chase Shumate is a safety from Detroit, Michigan who lettered twice at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He recorded 74 tackles (61 solo), 11 passes defended and three interceptions across 19 varsity games, earned all-region first-team honors in 2024 and served as team captain as a senior. On offense, he caught 45 passes for 630 yards and six touchdowns. A three-star recruit ranked 27th overall in Arizona and third among the state's safeties, Shumate committed to San Diego State over Central Michigan, Colorado State and Marshall. He made his collegiate appearance in the New Mexico Bowl against No. 25 North Texas on December 27 and utilized a redshirt for the 2025 season. Shumate enters his second year with the Aztecs.
