Josh Hunter is a safety for San Diego State who hails from Temecula, California, and attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. Hunter was a four-year letter winner who earned Trinity League Defensive MVP honors twice and recorded 148 tackles with eight interceptions over his high school career. He appeared in 10 games as a freshman in 2023, recording 38 tackles including a career-high 15 at Colorado State. In 2024, he played all 12 games, totaling 31 tackles with three tackles for loss and two pass breakups. During the 2025 season, Hunter appeared in all 13 games and recorded 15 tackles while earning Academic All-Mountain West recognition. He returns as a redshirt junior in 2026.
