Tim Burns Jr., a 5'10", 170-pound wide receiver from Miami, Florida, transferred to Sam Houston from Navarro College, where he was named 2024 SWJCFC Offensive Player of the Year after recording 53 receptions for 860 yards and 8 touchdowns across 11 games. In his first season with the Bearkats, Burns appeared in 12 games with seven starts at receiver, catching 12 passes for 228 yards and one touchdown while averaging 19.0 yards per reception. He also excelled on special teams, returning 12 kickoffs for 306 yards with a 98-yard touchdown return against Oregon State on November 8, and recorded one defensive tackle.
