DJ McKinney is a 6'1", 185-pound safety for Notre Dame. A three-star recruit from Colleyville, Texas, McKinney began his college career at Oklahoma State, appearing in four games during the 2022 season with two tackles. In 2023, his freshman year, he played in all 14 games and recorded 38 tackles with five pass breakups. After transferring to Colorado, McKinney started all 13 games in 2024, leading the team in defensive snaps (840) and finishing third with 62 tackles. He posted three interceptions and nine pass breakups that season, including a pick-six against Oklahoma State. In 2025, McKinney started the first nine games before an injury sidelined him, tallying 35 tackles, five pass breakups, one interception and one tackle for loss.
