Walker Braaten is a 6'3", 190-pound free safety from Westhope, North Dakota, where he was a four-year starter at Westhope HS under coach Layne Fluhrer. As a senior, he recorded 119 tackles with 10 pass breakups while also playing quarterback, completing 77 percent of his passes for 1,967 yards and 29 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,241 yards and 25 touchdowns and was named North Dakota's 9-man Senior Athlete of the Year. Braaten earned first-team all-state honors in 2023 and 2024. During his redshirt freshman season in 2025, he appeared in one non-conference game against St. Thomas, recording two tackles. He is a business major and returns to North Dakota State as a redshirt freshman.
