Carter Appl is a linebacker for North Dakota State, standing 6'2" and weighing 215 pounds. The freshman from Menasha, Wisconsin, attended Xavier High School, where he started three seasons under coach Dave Hinkels at linebacker and defensive end. During his prep career, Appl recorded 115 tackles, 54 total tackles for loss, and 23.5 sacks. He earned three all-conference honors, two all-region selections, and was named Bay Conference defensive player of the year in 2024. Appl also returned an interception for a touchdown and forced six fumbles across his high school years. He redshirted during the 2025 season with the Bison and is pursuing a degree in business administration.
