A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Carter played varsity football at Southwest High School, where he appeared in 24 games and recorded 71 total tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, and 5.0 sacks. He was rated a three-star prospect and received offers from multiple programs including Oklahoma State, Arkansas State, and Memphis.
