Mekai Smith is a freshman running back for Nevada standing 6'0" and weighing 220 pounds. A three-star prospect from San Francisco, Smith attended Balboa High School, where he helped lead the program to consecutive state 7-A titles in 2024-25. During his senior season, he recorded 2,447 rushing yards and 42 rushing touchdowns on 138 carries, averaging 17.7 yards per attempt, while also adding five touchdown receptions and six return touchdowns. Smith set the San Francisco Section single-season record for touchdowns with 53. In the 2025 opening game, he rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns on six carries.
