The Olathe, Kansas native attended Blue Valley Southwest High School, where he played defensive tackle and offensive line under head coach Anthony Orrick. As a senior in 2023, Strickland recorded 17 tackles, 2 tackles-for-loss, and 2.0 sacks and earned SportsInKansas All-State 5A First Team honors. His father, David, played football at Kansas from 1988-1993. Strickland did not appear in games during the 2024 and 2025 seasons and returns as a redshirt sophomore in 2026.
