River Helms is a tight end who transferred to Georgia Southern from Western Kentucky in January 2025. At WKU, Helms appeared in 13 games as a redshirt in 2022-23, then started nine of 12 games in 2023-24, recording 22 receptions for 289 yards and three touchdowns, including a season-high 76 yards against Liberty. In 2024-25, he started seven games with 19 catches for 22 yards and two touchdowns before entering the transfer portal. In his first season with the Eagles, Helms played in one game on 32 offensive snaps, catching one pass for 4 yards and a touchdown against Fresno State before suffering a shoulder injury that ended his season and earned him a medical hardship waiver.
