A native of College Station, Texas, Verdugo attended College Station High School, where he earned three All-State selections and helped lead his team to two state finalist appearances. He recorded school records for most games played and receiving yards. In his 2025 freshman season, Verdugo appeared in all 13 games and caught 10 passes for 101 yards with one touchdown reception against Western Kentucky on October 14, marking the first touchdown by a freshman tight end for the program since November 2020.
