Luke Mergott is a 6'3", 225-pound middle linebacker for Duke who returns as a starting defender in 2026. A three-star recruit from Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, Maryland, Mergott enrolled in January 2023 and saw limited action his first two seasons before stepping into a starting role in week five of 2025 following an injury. In his breakout year, he recorded 90 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries across 14 games. Mergott intercepted passes in both the ACC Championship Game and Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, each in the fourth quarter. He has compiled 107 tackles over 32 career games and was named Academic All-ACC in both 2024 and 2025.
