Joey VanWetzinga is a defensive lineman for Central Michigan who transferred from Iowa in June 2025. A December 2024 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School, VanWetzinga was named Class 5A state player of the year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association and earned three First Team All-State honors as a defensive lineman. He recorded 34.5 tackles, five sacks, and 11.0 tackles for loss during his senior year. As a true freshman at Central Michigan in 2025, he appeared in 11 of 13 games and finished with eight total tackles, including one solo tackle.
