Mason Atkins is a true freshman quarterback for Ball State. The North Aurora, Illinois native attended West Aurora High School, where he played three seasons of varsity football under head coach Nate Eimer. Atkins finished his prep career with 4,467 passing yards and 62 touchdowns, both program records. He completed 63% of his passes, including an 88-yard completion against Yorkville during his sophomore year. He also rushed for 893 yards and 15 touchdowns on 159 carries and earned honorable mention all-state honors as a senior. The West Aurora program compiled a 22-9 record during his three years, including a 10-1 season his junior year. Atkins signed with the Cardinals in December 2025.
