Alex Scherle is a tight end transfer from Rice joining Ball State as a redshirt senior. The 6'4", 234-pound Rochester Hills, Michigan native attended Notre Dame Prep in Pontiac, where he was a two-year starter at tight end and defensive end, recording 28 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns, plus 30 tackles and 20 tackles for loss including six sacks. At Rice, Scherle appeared in 13 games in 2025, including 90 special teams plays and 21 offensive snaps, making his offensive debut against Prairie View. He also saw action in seven games on offense and appeared in seven special teams contests as a redshirt sophomore in 2024.
