Freddie Gillens is a defensive back for Wake Forest from Columbia, SC, where he attended Cardinal Newman High School under coach Cory Helms, a former Demon Deacon. As a senior, Gillens recorded 33 tackles, seven pass breakups, one sack, and one forced fumble while earning All-State honors. During his junior year, he totaled 27 tackles across 12 games, added 12 pass breakups and three interceptions, and earned First Team SCISA 4A All-State selection. In his 2025 freshman season, Gillens appeared in three games and made his first career tackle in the win over Delaware on November 22.
