Doug Nelson is a 6'3", 213-pound safety from Hazlehurst, MS, who transferred to Troy as a junior after two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln CC. As a freshman in 2024, he recorded 18 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, and 6.0 sacks while adding a forced fumble and two pass break ups. In 2025, Nelson earned All-MACCC First Team honors with 36 tackles, five pass break ups, one interception, a fumble recovery, and one tackle for loss, ranking 22nd nationally in pass break ups. He was named the top JUCO safety by national outlets and ranked second by recruiting services. Nelson currently returns to Troy's roster for the 2026 season.
