Zyil Powell is a 6'1", 195-pound safety from Jersey City, New Jersey, who attended Paramus Catholic High School. Powell joined Temple as a member of the 2023 recruiting class and redshirted his freshman year after recording his first career tackle against Norfolk State. He lettered in 2024 as a redshirt freshman, appearing in the first four games of the season. In 2025, Powell appeared in every game, accumulating 9 total tackles and 6 solo tackles while serving on punt, kickoff, punt return, and kickoff return units. He earned special teams player of the game honors in wins against UMass and Tulsa, and made his first career start at Army. Powell returns as a redshirt junior in 2026 and will compete at the viper and safety positions.
