Jamel Johnson is a safety for TCU who was recruited as a four-star prospect and the nation's No. 33 safety in the 2023 class. He appeared in 10 games as a freshman in 2023, totaling 19 tackles. In 2024, Johnson started 12 of 13 games and recorded 73 tackles, including an 11-tackle performance in the season-opening win at Stanford where he forced a fumble. As a junior in 2025, he played and started all 13 games, accumulating 96 tackles with 3 tackles for loss and 5 interceptions, the most on the team. He earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against SMU, which included two interceptions, and recorded a crucial interception in the Alamo Bowl victory over USC.
