Joey Hunter is a left cornerback for Sam Houston State, standing 6'2" and weighing 195 pounds. A native of Atlanta, GA, Hunter graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 2020 as a three-star recruit ranked 659th overall. He began his college career at South Carolina in 2020, appearing in four games without recording statistics before undergoing foot surgery in December. Hunter subsequently transferred to Akron, where he appeared in 11 games with six starts in 2024, recording 10 tackles and two pass breakups. He also played at Memphis in 2025, appearing in four games and recording one tackle against Florida Atlantic on September 27.
