A highly-touted recruit, McCaskill broke through as a true freshman at Houston in 2021, appearing in 14 games with 12 starts. He accumulated 961 yards on 189 carries and 16 touchdowns, adding 21 receptions for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. That season earned him American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-AAC honors.
