At Belle Chasse High School under coach Stephen Meyer, Barthelemy earned Louisiana Sportswriters first team all-state and first team all-district honors as a senior when his team went 11-2. He also received honorable mention all-state recognition as a junior and first team all-district accolades as a sophomore. Before committing to Oklahoma State, Barthelemy had pledged to Texas State and Washington State and drew interest from Iowa State, North Texas, Louisiana, and Troy.
