Nathaniel Staehling is a 6'2", 238-pound weakside linebacker who transferred to Michigan from North Dakota State. A native of Baxter, Minnesota, Staehling attended Brainerd High School, where he lettered four times and served as team captain his senior year. At North Dakota State, he earned four varsity letters across four seasons (2022–25) and appeared in 32 games. As a senior in 2025, Staehling was named team captain and recorded 75 tackles, including 6.0 for loss with 1.5 sacks, four pass breakups, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery across 13 games. Over his full NDSU career, he totaled 91 tackles, 7.0 for loss, 1.5 sacks, eight pass breakups including three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
