The 6'7", 255-pound true freshman from West Chester, Ohio, attended Lakota West High School, where he was a consensus four-star prospect and ranked among the nation's top tight ends. Gilbert appeared in 10 games during his 2025 debut season, primarily contributing on special teams. He caught two passes for 37 yards, including a 20-yard reception against Bethune-Cookman on September 6 and a 17-yard reception in the win over USF on September 13. Gilbert also saw action in postseason contests, including the VRBO Fiesta Bowl victory over Ole Miss and the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana.
