Carlton Smith is a sophomore linebacker for Maryland who hails from Norfolk, Virginia, where he attended Maury High School. A three-star recruit in the 2025 class, Smith saw action in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2025, including one start at Illinois. He finished the season with 64 total tackles (41 solo), ranking fourth on the team, while adding four QB hurries, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. Smith posted a career-high 11 tackles against Washington and was honored with the A.V. Williams Award for sportsmanship.
