DJ Burgess is a 6'2", 270-pound left defensive end from Lafayette County, Mississippi who transferred to Charlotte from Northwest Mississippi Community College. At NWMCC, he earned NJCAA All-America honors in 2023 and 2024 while recording 46 tackles, 9.5 tackles-for-loss, and 2.5 sacks in 2023, followed by 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2024. He was named MACCC Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. Burgess joined Charlotte as a redshirt junior in 2025 but appeared in only the season opener, registering 2 tackles and 1 quarterback hurry before suffering a season-ending injury.
