A native of Corona, California, McKinley played his prep football at Centennial High School, where he earned consensus three-star recruit status. As a senior in 2025, he recorded 89 tackles and 11.0 sacks while adding one interception and 11 quarterback hurries. During his junior year, he totaled 39 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries and was named League Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.
